Happenings Part 2

Earlier this month we went to Foodfest on campus. It was our first one. Foodfest is an event where all the clubs on campus (Hawaiian, Filipino, Korean, etc) make food to sell at their own booth or tent. We got Lumpia (spring rolls) from the Filipino club, green curry, sticky rice, and papaya salad from the Thai club (restaurant quality), and Koko Samoa (like grainy hot chocolate) from...Samoa. We wanted to try the Fijian/Indian food but the line was loooong.

On Valentine's we went to a fondue party after we went to the water park (which was a lot of fun btw! I'm glad we both enjoy water parks!)
Asa, Dar, Hiva, Dustin
My valentine rose that is surprisingly still alive.I've been exercising with Rose about 4 days a week for a month!
We've been watching these 3 shows faithfully: The Bachelor, The Office, and The King of Queens (our new fave!!).
We've been cooking every night for 2 months now and only eating out once a week. I plan our meals for 2 weeks at a time. It's a lot of fun to try new recipes and we save money! Also, we get to look forward to a date night on the weekends.
We treated ourselves to shave ice from Angel's twice. We get Macadamia Nut ice cream in the bottom and recently tried Melona, Raspberry, and Blue Hawaii syrups. Yum!
We went to see this on campus. It was good with catchy music!
Wednesday night we went to a preview of "Ha, the Breath of Life" the PCC's new night show. It is going to have some awesome changes and it will be exciting to see it all come together.

I made a list of things I want to do before we leave here so stay tuned for more posts from us.

Happenings

Even though I haven't posted much lately we've been doing some fun things. Just thought I'd share...

On the 6th we met Katelyn and Brandon at Waimea to watch the big waves. The water was closed for swimming unless you had 2 fins and experience at Waimea. The surfing waves in the distance were 20 feet. Of course it doesn't look as big on camera as it does in person.

K and B lookin' cute

Then we drove up to the heiau (temple) on Pupukea. It has a great view of Waimea.

We've eaten twice at Papa Ole's to get the garlic chicken. So greasy yet delicious.
We went with Katelyn & Brandon and Dar & Asa to the dollar theater in Honolulu to watch Australia and Twilight. We want to own this movie!
It has been cold and windy here. I feel like it's never gonna be beach weather again. I'm actually wearing jeans and a jacket to work everyday and still getting cold. I know, I'm a baby.

Also, this is what the temple looks like since they started the renovations this year. They don't have the lights on at night anymore either. :(
I miss seeing this at night and I miss working there on Tuesday nights. That was seriously the highlight of my week for the 14 months I worked there.

Stay tuned...another post to follow soon.

I'm Lucky

I heard this song on the radio the other day and it seemed to sum up how I'm feeling right now. I hope you like it.

Happy Valentine's Day

It's always fun to celebrate Valentine's Day with little kids. I made these strawberry cupcakes for the kids in preschool. They turned out yummy!

Question: Do you like conversation hearts?
Answer: No, I do not.
Fact: The chalky powder they leave on my fingers and teeth gives me shivers when I eat them. (But somehow I always end up eating them anyway.)
This is a comedian Jim Gaffigan, and I love his part on Valentine candy (about min. 3:40)

Tomorrow we are going to this place for the day. They had a "sweetheart deal" for Valentine's.
Saturday night we're having a fondue party with a bunch of friends. Should be a fun day. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

"That which we call a rose

By any other name would smell as sweet."

I just wanted to make a post about one of my best friends I met in Hawaii. When we lived in our studio apt, Rose and Jess lived 3 doors down. We met one Sunday, soon after we moved here, and I thought she was so loud and talkative. After our first conversation though, they gave us their extra TV to borrow while we lived here. This automatically moved them to the “awesome” level in our book.

Then Rose invited me over to workout with her. After that, we worked out almost everyday for months. We would mix it up with different videos and going to the gym, but our favorite workout was Hip Hop Abs with "Shaun T, Shaun T".

Many of our workouts turn into a chat session and we put more effort into our conversation than our exercise; but hey, we were both able to see results from our consistency.

Last July we both moved into new apartments and they moved wards :( so we stopped hanging out as much. But this year we are making a better effort to spend time together, and last week we worked out 4 days in a row!

I love making no-bake cookies with Rose.

I love using the Deceptively Delicious cookbook to make healthy food and leaving out all the vegetables :)

I love our late night chats with both of them.

I love watching movies on their HUGE tv (which was more fun when we all laid under the covers on their full-size bed in their studio, lol).

And I love how loud and fun Rose is! She is C-R-A-Z-Y!

I know she has a ton of friends, but I’m glad I can call her one of my best friends! I’m glad they are expecting their first baby and I’m sad I’ll move right before she is born. I’m also glad Jess is from southeast Idaho so there is a possibility we will live close to each other again. But even if they stay in Hawaii, at least I’ll get to see her when we come back. Love ya Rosie!

A Happy Birthday

My birthday was about 3 weeks ago (I know this is totally overdue) and we were able to have a fun time with some of our friends. We went and saw Bride Wars (b-day girl's choice) which was a funny and cute movie.
Then we ate at El Mariachi's in Kaneohe-always good.
We got so stuffed but I had a coupon for free Coldstone ice cream so we had to go over there. I got my fave chocolate ice cream with brownie.Katelyn, Brandon, JamieNext we headed to the bowling alley at school. Bowling is always so much fun! I bowled over 100 both times. Before I took bowling at BYUI, I averaged about 43, now I'm usually in the 90s! Proof that you can actually learn and improve a skill with a little practice. (I got the "Most Improved" award in my bowling class).

Darlene found a way to improve her accuracy and save her back.Sweet Hips in action
Go Katelyn!

Then it was back to our apt. for chocolate cake and macadamia nut pie. I was so full that it didn't even taste that good (it tasted great the next day though). Rob insisted that I blow out candles this year (which took 2 or 3 tries!) :( and then he surprised me with gifts. He tells me every year that he forgot to get me something or he couldn't get to the store, and I believe him. This year was almost true because he didn't get them until 2 days before. I got The Office season 1, so now we have all 4 seasons, "P.S. I Love You," "Dan in Real Life," and Rhianna's cd.

It was such a fun birthday!
